Personalized settings remember your preferences
Are you interested in a more efficient search experience? If you have created a personalized account on Web of Science, you are now able to set their preferred language, starting database, and whether the document search opens with one field (topic) or three fields (topic, author, source).
You can also select your default sorting order of search results. To see your search results with the most recent content on top, select “Date: Newest first.”
More efficient query combination in Advanced Search
Are you building a complex query that requires a faster way to combine or delete multiple selected searches in Advanced Search? In this release, users will be able to (1) combine using the AND or OR operators or (2) delete multiple searches efficiently by selecting specific searches using a checkbox, and (3) have more control to edit specific queries before saving them.
Run saved searches using timespans
Have you saved a complex search query that you re-run regularly to see newly added results? We’ve made this process easier by allowing you to choose the desired timespan before executing the search. Simply click on the Rerun Search button and select the desired timespan. If you want to see all results, simply rerun the search without changing the timespan.
Panoramic article view enhancements
Now available in Web of Science Core Collection
Previously, a new aggregate article view showing available metadata from Web of Science Core Collection, Medline, BIOSIS Citation Index, CABI: CAB Abstracts and Global Health, FSTA-the food safety resource, and/or Zoological Record was introduced in the All Database collection. With this release, this 360-degree view of a single article can now be seen in Web of Science Core Collection. As always, the ability to view the fields from a specific database is available for those who are entitled to view them.
Inspec® now available in panoramic article view
Inspec® is now included in the panoramic view available in both All Databases and Web of Science Core Collection so that you can easily view all the information about an article that has been indexed in the multiple collections (such as Inspec®) that you are entitled to view.
Newly added Inspec® fields are classification systems that group similar content together to make it easier to find. They include:
- International Patent Classification
- Subject Classification codes
- CODEN
- Controlled Terms
- Uncontrolled Terms
Earlier indications of potential retraction
Web of Science is committed to providing trustworthy data for the research community. We are expanding our identification of editorial content beyond those articles that have been formally retracted to include articles that have received an expression of concern or have been withdrawn. Towards that end, we are introducing four new document types:
Expression of Concern: A notification about the integrity of a published article that is typically written by an editor. The outcome may result in a future retraction notice or correction notice. The original article information is included in the title of the Expression of Concern and the original article is cited.
Publication with Expression of Concern: An original publication that has an Expression of Concern published about it. A Publication with Expression of Concern will have a dual document type: EXAMPLE: Article; Publication with Expression of Concern. A “Publication with Expression of Concern” dual document type will only be assigned if an Expression of Concern notice is published.
Item Withdrawal: A published statement from the editor or author announcing the withdrawal of a manuscript and the reason for the withdrawal. The Item Withdrawal notice must state that the item is being withdrawn. The original article information is included in the title of the withdrawal item and the original article is cited. Note: Prior to 2021 Item Withdrawals were processed as a Retraction.
Withdrawn Publication: An article that has been withdrawn by an author, institution, editor, or a publisher. A Withdrawn Publication will have a dual document type: EXAMPLE: Article; Withdrawn Publication. A Withdrawn Publication dual document type was created in 2021 and will only be assigned if an Item Withdrawal notice is published.
To increase visibility of these earlier indications of potential retraction, a new refine option that will researchers to surface these notifications.
Researcher search tab
The new ‘Researchers’ search tab makes it easier to access a search of our author profiles, replacing the old ‘Authors’ tab. Searches can still be performed by either name variant or identifier, and is available to all Web of Science Core Collection subscribers.
Chemical Structure Marked List pages
Users with subscriptions to the Current Chemical Reactions (CCR) and Index Chemicus (IC) editions of the Web of Science Core Collection can now save compounds and reactions to marked lists.
On landing on the Marked List page, users will be presented with two tabs: Documents and Chemical Structures. By default, the Documents tab will be always preselected. Users can now add records directly from the structure search summary page to the Unfiled Chemical Structure list. Signed-in users can also create new lists which will appear below the ‘My Lists’ section.
Please note, user can switch between compounds and reactions using the radio buttons in the ‘Refine results’ section – an aggregate view of reactions and compounds is not available. There is a 50-record limit applied to both the Reaction and the Compound lists.
RIS export in Medline, CCC and CSCD
We expanded support for exporting references in RIS format to the following collections:
- Medline
- Current Contents Connect
- Chinese Science Citation Database
Users can now export in RIS format in these collections from the search summary and the full record page.
