Frankfurt – Go! Find.

Frankfurt – Go! Find.

This year, the tagline appearing on the Frankfurter Buchmesse infamous red banner is “Go! Find.” While I can’t speak to the original intention behind the tagline, the phrase conjures up the image of someone who is willing to step out on a journey and discover something along the way.

This is the beginning of every innovation story. Discovery lies at the start of innovation, and those who are willing to step out on that journey are risk-takers. At Clarivate Analytics, we want to support our customers who are the risk-takers, those who will go and find – whether it’s a cure for cancer or the next source of energy.

If you’re one of the hundreds of thousands who will go to Frankfurt this October, you can find us at booth K.47 in Hall 4.2, as well as at two Hot Spot Presentations. Be sure to check out these sessions: Ian Potter will take a look at the metrics of papers from submission to decision, while Andrew Preston will be speaking on the peer review process (more details below).

You can also join us at the Clarivate Analytics stand for an opportunity to hear from Annette Thomas about her new role as CEO of the Scientific and Academic Research business of Clarivate Analytics. Annette will also be joined by Andrew Preston, Managing Director of Publons. Both will share their views about the exciting developments in the SAR business. Find more details and register here.

Aggregating data from ScholarOne with metrics and analytics from Web of Science allows us to connect the dots between inputs and outputs in the scholarly publishing ecosystem, such as how many papers are submitted, where they come from, if they are accepted and rejected, where they get published (open access or not), and what their impact is. These analyses can provide valuable insights on the trends shaping scholarly publishing.

The time from manuscript submission to publication is increasing for many journals and incidences of reviewer fraud have sent shockwaves through the industry. So it is no surprise that safely getting review done by expert peer reviewers continues to be cited by journal editors as the most risky and challenging part of their job.

In this presentation, we will use data extracted from the Publons platform to highlight the specific challenges editors face as they attempt to safely navigate each stage of the review process — finding, screening, contacting, and motivating reviewers. We will also give a sneak peak of the publisher-neutral solution we are developing following our recent acquisition by Clarivate Analytics.
