As the COVID-19 pandemic emergency slowly resolves, watch for Premera Blue Cross to return its attention to behavioral health to improve health outcomes for patients. For example, in April 2021, the Washington State Department of Commerce, in partnership with Premera, announced $2.24 million in capital grants to three behavioral health providers. Additionally, social determinants of health will likely play a role in PremeraÕs strategic agenda in 2022, especially with respect to Medicare Advantage health plans as older adults with complex needs are more likely to be impacted by SDOH. Several Premera executives participated in a SDOH roundtable discussion with the Washington State Health Care Authority in early 2021.
