Jacksonville health systems are generally traditional, opting to grow their influence by adding new facilities. Baptist Health and Ascension St. Vincent added more convenient care locations to bring patients into the health system, and Walmart is building its clinic presence in the market to compete with IDNs as well as current leader CVS/minute clinics. The market health systems have unique roles that complements the other strengths, and further consolidation among the market existing players is unlikely. Health plans may need to carve out their niche in Jacksonville, given the dominance of Florida Blue in the commercial space. COVID-19 may drive down employer-sponsored commercial enrollment, but Florida Blue has caught new enrollment opportunities on the exchange.
