Empowering women

The share of female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies reached an all-time high of 6.4% in 2017, with 32 women heading major firms. But the share fell to 4.8% in 2018 after several high-profile women left their posts.[1] In the U.S., women represent 47% of the workforce, yet they hold just 21% of senior leadership positions.[2]

At Clarivate we know that improving female representation in leadership roles is not just a social and moral imperative – there are financial benefits to it too. According to a recent report from McKinsey, ‘Delivering Through Diversity’, companies in the top-quartile for gender diversity on executive teams were 21% more likely to outperform on profitability.[3]

As a response to this, Women at Clarivate, Clarivate Analytics’ women’s resource group, has launched a global series of educational webinars offered on a global scale so anyone across Clarivate can attend with the aim to empower women across the business. Hosted by Rhonda Laurencelle, PhD & President of Pure Leadership Consulting, these sessions are geared towards continuing education focused on women in their professional careers.

Women at Clarivate was launched in 2018 as a global employee resource group that is committed to creating a sense of community, developing a shared support network, and providing opportunities for women in senior roles to connect and act as role models for more junior female employees. The group works to cultivate an environment in which women flourish through the creation of opportunities for social interaction, networking, community engagement and professional development.

The webinars are part of Clarivate’s commitment to professional development. The aim is to give participants valuable insight into navigating their career paths, developing executive presence and creating strategic networks that will aid in developing personal brands. The sessions themselves are interactive, with breakout groups that allow attendees to network with colleagues in different departments but also different parts of the world. These webinars will cover off three basic ingredients for success and career progression: trust; attention; and connections.

Through these online workshops, the Women at Clarivate group aims to provide the necessary tools as a first step to ‘owning your career’. Participants are challenged to think about relationships differently and begin to approach partnerships from a more strategic and holistic manner as they navigate through their careers. It will also help understand what makes or breaks one’s executive presence and learn ways to refine one’s presence to command greater attention and power. Finally, the workshops will highlight the importance of leveraging connections to gain social capital and a stronger brand within and outside of an organization.

Women at Clarivate is hoping that these webinar sessions will provide a first set of tools for women to feel empowered to ‘own their career’ and drive it where they want. Through other initiatives, including leadership development programs, succession planning and talent review processes, Clarivate is working on having a strong diverse workforce everyone at the organisation can be proud of.
