Life at Clarivate: Welcoming Catherine Daniel into the Clarivate family

After transitioning into her role as Director of External Communications, Life Sciences and Healthcare at Clarivate, Catherine Daniel shares insight on her move into Clarivate, how she has adapted to the change and her integral role in telling the Clarivate story to the world.

Catherine Daniel joined Decision Resources Group (DRG) in February 2019, before it was acquired by Clarivate in March 2020. DRG provides high-value data, analytics and insights to the world’s leading pharma, biotech and medical technology companies. Catherine’s role at DRG included a blend of internal, corporate and external communications. Now, she has transitioned to a central position, leading external communications across Clarivate Life Sciences and Healthcare. In this role, she elevates awareness and engagement with Clarivate content, products and services and develops and executes PR campaigns to reinforce Clarivate as a leading global source of trusted information and insights. In this blog, Catherine talks about her early career in public relations and how she currently supports in communicating key Clarivate narratives to external stakeholders.

I discovered my love of public relations as a senior in high school. After only two weeks of being an overenthusiastic greeter at a New York City Gap store, I was presented with an opportunity to join Gap’s corporate communications team as a PR intern. The internship lit the spark for what became a long-held passion for public relations. It placed me on my current career trajectory, affording me opportunity to work with amazing global brands, including Iceland Spring, 1-800-Flowers, WebMD/ Medscape and now Clarivate.

A warm welcome from colleagues

While joining a new company can be challenging, the similarities in how Clarivate and DRG conduct business, including the unwavering customer focus, commitment to fostering a collaborative culture and mission and their vision and values has allowed for a smooth integration.

My personal experience included a transition from a small communications team to a larger communications department. I was welcomed to the team by communications colleagues across the globe who participated in my on-boarding process, introduced me to internal and external stakeholders and supported me as I learned more about the company, key priorities and business objectives. It’s exciting to be able to engage and collaborate with colleagues across the globe to obtain a variety of unique perspectives.

Clarivate has a compelling story to tell

My new role supports Clarivate Life Sciences and Healthcare, including DRG, allowing for exciting opportunities for media relations and collaborations between colleagues and narratives across both Clarivate and legacy DRG. I am particularly enjoying my role in promoting multiple narratives that highlight how the combined expertise, data and technologies of Clarivate and DRG can support customers across the entire drug, device and medical technology lifecycles.

The collaborative culture at Clarivate

To succeed, it is critical to build and maintain relationships. That is a personal mantra that I have applied throughout my professional career. As a communications professional, I learned the relationships that are built with internal stakeholders help to inform and directly impact the success of external communications.

Since joining Clarivate, I have found the collaborative culture, within and across business areas to be a driving force in achieving external communications goals that are in line with key business objectives. The eagerness of colleagues to support in elevating brand awareness by sharing in-depth details related to content, products and services, is both refreshing and encouraging. It’s exciting to be a part of an organization committed to fostering an innovative colleague-focused culture, centered on increasing communication and collaboration throughout the organization.
