Introduction

All researchers, regardless of ability, need access to scholarly information. Clarivate is committed to providing all our users with a fully accessible experience for research, teaching and learning.

At Clarivate, we make every effort to ensure that our platforms – including Journal Citation Reports – can be used by everyone. Journal Citation Reports is continually designed and developed to meet Level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2).

Users of Journal Citation Reports should be able to:

  • Navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • Go directly to main content areas on the page using skip links
  • Navigate the website using a screen reader

There may be some parts of this website that are not fully accessible:

  • Some PDFs may not be accessible to screen readers
  • Some data visualizations may not be fully accessible to screen readers
  • Most form fields are clearly described, some form fields are not labeled
  • Some elements are missing ARIA labels
  • Some 3rd party tools, like the resource guides, may not be fully accessible
  • Text is able to be magnified up to 200% without loss of functionality. Some content is disrupted at 400% magnification.

Accessibility features and gaps

How we tested this platform

The accessibility of Journal Citation Reports is a continual effort at Clarivate. Accessibility standards are built into our design, and style guides and included as part of requirements in our software development and quality assurance pipeline.

Journal Citation Reports code is checked for accessibility using a range of automated and manual checks including but not limited to:

  • Color Contrast Analyzers provided by WebAIM and Deque
  • Deque axe accessibility testing tools
  • High Contrast Chrome extension
  • Keyboard-access manual testing and assessment
  • WAVE (Web Accessibility Evaluation tool) provided by WebAIM
  • Screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver

Journal Citation Reports is tested on the latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Edge, and on devices including Mac and Windows computers, and Android and iOS devices.

Compliance level and report

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines v2.2 AA standard. Accessibility features and areas of non-compliances are listed in the following section.

Access the full Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT 2.5 & WCAG 2.2) for the Journal Citation Reports. We are continually iterating on Journal Citation Reports with an aim to becoming fully WCAG 2.2 and AA compliant and remain compliant with future revisions. We commit to updating our ACR on a regular basis to highlight progress made.

Accessibility in design and development

  • UX design is checked for conformance to visual accessibility standards and best practices (e.g., font size, color contrast).
  • Newly created code is automatically scanned using a dynamic accessibility scanner such as axe before new code is accepted.
  • As the code is compiled in preparation for release, the entire application is scanned using automated tools such as the Axe scanner and SiteImprove to surface any issues of noncompliance and identify defects for remediation.
  • As a final step of product launch readiness, each release is manually validated to ensure accessibility for users who rely on tab navigation and screen readers using our recommended browsers (NVDA for PC and Voiceover for MAC).
  • Our voluntary conformance report details areas of continued improvement. With each release, we continue to monitor and address issues related to missing alt text, labels, focus order, keyboard navigation, and skip navigation.

The website was last tested on April 7th, 2025. The test was carried out internally at Clarivate.
