Royal Society Publishing will adopt the newly released reviewer search tool, Publons Reviewer Connect, across its entire portfolio and offer automated recognition for all their peer reviewers
LONDON, UK, October 9th, 2018: Today the Royal Society, the world’s oldest independent scientific academy in continuous existence and publisher of the first scientific journal, has announced that they will become Development Partners with Publons, the premier peer review platform, a Clarivate Analytics company.
Partnering in this way will allow the world’s oldest independent scientific academy and Publons to fully collaborate on the Royal Society’s strategic requirements in peer review. In adopting Publons Reviewer Connect, they will bring greater efficacy to the thousands of reviewer searches conducted by Royal Society editors each year; whilst extending Publons’ Reviewer Recognition Service across all their peer-reviewed academic journals will provide automated recognition to their valued reviewer community.
Royal Society Publisher Phil Hurst said:
“Our peer review community has played an integral part in establishing our global reputation for disseminating some of the most internationally significant research and revealing some of the most life-changing discoveries in scientific history.
The Royal Society looks to lead the way in supporting and engaging our review community. Our partnership with Publons has proved to be the perfect way to do that. Publons understands our history, business and communities and is an important collaborative partner in helping us deliver community-driven innovative and practical solutions.
Extending the partnership is the natural next step as we work to deliver scalable peer review services in line with the development of the Society and its publishing programme.”
Publons’ Managing Director Andrew Preston said:
“Since the Royal Society began their partnership with us in September 2015, more than 5,000 reviewers have recorded over 9,500 reviews on Publons. We are proud to carry forward this relationship into a strategic partnership on peer review, which seeks to address the review process holistically – from finding, screening and connecting with reviewers, through to recognizing and evaluating their essential contributions. The Royal Society’s insights will be invaluable to us as we strive to help publishers accelerate research by harnessing the power of peer review.”
Integrating with all peer review systems, Publons’ Reviewer Recognition Service provides peer reviewers seamless, instant recognition for their contributions, in full compliance with journal review policies. The Royal Society will have access to exclusive tools and insights designed to help them understand and serve their peer review community more effectively.
Launched in July, Publons Reviewer Connect combines Publons’ cross-publisher peer review platform of 450k+ reviewers with Web of Science – the world’s largest curated author and citation database – to deliver a high number of precise recommendations from more than seven million researchers. The Royal Society will implement this next-generation reviewer search tool across their portfolio, providing key feedback to Publons’ development team and advancing new industry-wide initiatives such as real-time reviewer availability.
