Amazon Technologies, L’Oréal, IGT and Glaxo Group / GSK among the largest trademark portfolio owners across jurisdictions
London, U.K. April 27, 2026: Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a leading global provider of transformative intelligence, today released the Trademark Filing Trends 2026 report, analyzing industry-level patterns across major jurisdictions spanning internet gaming (iGaming), pharmaceuticals, and cross-border e-commerce. The report reveals the top 20 most active local and foreign-based trademark portfolios and the law firms managing the most active trademark portfolios in ten key trademark registers worldwide: the United States (U.S.), Canada, the United Kingdom (U.K.), the European Union (EU), France, Germany, India, Mainland China, Japan, and Australia.
Based on trademark data from CompuMark containing over 150 million records, the report shows that Mainland China continues to lead in trademark filings with 6.76 million applications in 2025. The U.S. has the second-most active trademark office, with 599,900 applications, a 5.8% increase. This marks the third‑busiest year on record for the U.S. Closing in on the U.S., India continues to receive high volumes of trademark filings with 598,750 trademark applications in 2025, representing a 15% year-on-year growth.
Maroun S. Mourad, President, Intellectual Property, Clarivate, said: “Trademark filing patterns offer a clear lens into how businesses are adapting to today’s commercial realities. Comprehensively curated trademark data from Clarivate reveals that filings are becoming more selective, more international and increasingly shaped by fast‑moving sectors rather than long‑established corporate dominance. Understanding these shifts is critical for building resilient, future‑ready trademark strategies.”
Other key findings from the 2025 trademark filing data include:
- Four brands consistently ranked in the top 20 largest portfolio lists. Amazon Technologies, L’Oréal, IGT and Glaxo Group / GSK are among the most active portfolio owners in at least three of the ten registers analyzed. L’Oréal dominates across borders while Amazon Technologies is the only AI‑adjacent company to file at scale.
- High‑growth sectors are defining trademark momentum. Trademark filing activity in 2025 was driven primarily by iGaming and pharmaceuticals. iGaming brand owners appear more than 20 times across top‑filer rankings globally. Vaping and tobacco and cosmetics, fragrance and personal care were also among the top categories across jurisdictions.
- Trademark representation is becoming more international. For the first time, multi‑jurisdictional filing services and cross‑border representatives featured prominently across several major offices, including the EUIPO, UKIPO, DPMA and IP Australia. This shift marks a clear departure from historically local filing models and reflects growing demand for centralized, internationally coordinated portfolio management.
