Clarivate and Healthcare Executive Unveil the 2026 Top 100 Most Innovative Chinese Pharmaceutical Companies
New ranking highlights the growing global influence of Mainland China’s pharmaceutical innovators

Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a leading global provider of transformative intelligence, and Healthcare Executive, a leading information platform for China’s pharmaceutical industry, today announced the 2026 Top 100 Most Innovative Chinese Pharmaceutical Companies (also known as “CPIE 100” in Mainland China). The ranking recognizes organizations driving scientific advancement and strengthening Mainland China’s role in global pharmaceutical innovation.
Now in its eighth consecutive year, the ranking has become a widely recognized benchmark for assessing innovation across Mainland China’s pharmaceutical industry. Powered by an evaluation model designed by Healthcare Executive and insights from the Cortellis intelligence portfolio, including Cortellis Competitive Intelligence, the ranking evaluates companies across the innovation lifecycle, from intellectual property strength and clinical development progress to the successful commercialization of novel medicines.

Key findings from the 2026 rankings, include:
Clinical innovation continues to accelerate: Early-stage clinical activity remains strong, with Phase I trials increasing by more than 20 percent year over year. Combined with continued growth in Phase III programs, the trend reflects a healthy innovation pipeline and increasing opportunities for global partnerships and licensing activity as Chinese companies advance promising assets toward commercialization.
Regional innovation hubs continue to drive growth: Mainland China’s leading pharmaceutical clusters, including the Yangtze River Delta, Bohai Economic Rim, Pearl River Delta and Chengdu-Chongqing region, remain at the center of industry innovation. Together, these hubs have accounted for more than 80 companies on the ranking every year since 2020, supported by strong policy frameworks, investment and scientific talents.
Industry leaders are pulling ahead: 36 companies have maintained a place in the ranking since 2019, highlighting sustained excellence in innovation. At the same time, the gap between leading innovators and the broader market continues to widen, reflecting an increasingly mature and competitive industry landscape.
These findings underscore the continued evolution of Mainland China’s pharmaceutical sector as it enhances its innovation capabilities, strengthens global partnerships and increases its contribution to the worldwide life sciences ecosystem.
