AICTE and Clarivate Analytics Release Policy Framework to Support Research Excellence in Academic Institutions Across India

New Delhi, INDIA, 11 July 2018 – The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) today announced the release of a research policy framework document developed in partnership with Clarivate Analytics, the company behind Web of Science, the world’s most trusted citation index. Web of Science is a publisher-independent platform which provides unrivaled coverage of papers, books, conference proceedings, datasets and patents to researchers in more than 100 countries and 7,000 academic institutions around the world.

Released at the AICTE headquarters in New Delhi, the framework was developed to drive research excellence across AICTE approved academic institutions. In addition to offering best practices and guidelines, the research policy framework provides:

  • Guidelines for developing long-term research plans and for building human capital
  • Information on deploying requisite resources
  • Details on sourcing funding and leveraging the right collaborations
  • Guidelines for establishing governance mechanisms for tracking and promoting research
  • Information on ensuring continuous improvement and sustainability

Through this collaboration, AICTE and Clarivate have also successfully conducted four regional workshops to present the framework to AICTE-approved academic institutions. The workshops covered key considerations for developing and executing a robust research program and best practices to incorporate research into undergraduate teaching curriculum.

Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE commented:

“Research is a key pillar of academic excellence. It is critical that institutions have a well-defined plan to develop a robust research program and incorporate research elements in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching curriculum. This research policy framework document will provide good guidance to academic institutions and is a key step towards building world class institutions.”

Jay Nadler, CEO, Clarivate Analytics said:

“Clarivate Analytics is committed to furthering the research and innovation landscape across the globe. Our partnership and collaborative effort with AICTE will be instrumental in guiding AICTE approved institutions as well as the broader academic community across India.”
