Royal Society of Chemistry partnership with Publons expands to give reviewers more recognition

We have expanded our agreement with Publons – the premier reviewer recognition service – across all of our journals.

Last year we announced a 12-month trial partnership with Publons across ten of our journals. Following positive feedback from the research community, we are continuing the partnership by making the service available – on an ongoing basis – across all of our journals.

Publons is a service that reviewers can sign up for and record their peer review history, as a way of “getting recognition for peer review”. Their mission is to speed up research by harnessing the power of great peer review, working with publishers, institutions and researchers to turn peer review into a measurable output that can be used to demonstrate a researcher’s standing, impact and influence in their field.

Dr Emma Wilson, Director of Publishing at the Royal Society of Chemistry, says:

“Our reviewers provide an invaluable service – one that is essential for the publication of scientifically rigorous, high-quality research – and we are always looking for new ways to ensure they get the recognition they deserve. Through our partnership with Publons, we aim to continue supporting the needs of our reviewer community, and improve the quality and efficiency of both peer review and research.”

“Peer Review Week 2018 has a focus on diversity, and we hope that the recognition afforded by our partnership with Publons will help to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to, and benefit from, great peer review.”

Andrew Preston, Managing Director at Publons, says:

‘We’re delighted to see a prestigious publisher like the Royal Society of Chemistry extending their partnership with Publons. The feedback from our reviewer community has been hugely positive about our publisher partnerships, and it’s great to see the RSC commit to recognizing the efforts of their reviewers in a seamless, trustworthy and efficient way’

More about Publons

Publons allows researchers to get verified recognition for peer review without compromising reviewer anonymity or infringing upon journal review models.

Using the service, reviewers are able to:

  • Track their verified peer review activity across all participating publishers and journals, which is recorded all in one place and updated automatically
  • View and download their up-to-date reviewer record at any time
  • Get more recognition for the reviews they complete
  • Choose to be notified when an article they reviewed is published, so they can see the outcome of their peer review
  • Have the option to link their record to their ORCID account to show their publication and peer review activity together.

Supporting the Publons peer review awards

For the third year running, Publons is publishing the names of the world’s top reviewers, in the form of the Publons Peer Review Awards 2018.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s awards.
