Introduction

All research institutions and researchers, regardless of ability, need access to scholarly information. Clarivate is committed to providing all our users with a fully accessible experience for research, teaching and learning.

At Clarivate, we make every effort to ensure that our platforms – including Web of Science Research Intelligence – can be used by everyone. Web of Science Research Intelligence is continually designed and developed to meet Level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2).

Users of Web of Science Research Intelligence should be able to:

  • Navigate most of the web application using a keyboard only
  • Navigate most of the web application using a screen reader
  • Experience a logical and consistent tab order for majority of the interactive elements

There may be some parts of this website that are not fully accessible:

  • Most of the text can be magnified up to 200% without loss of functionality. At a zoom level of 400%, most of the content may get lost, overflow, overlap, or become truncated.
  • A small number of features are challenging to navigate using only the keyboard.
  • Some interface elements lack clear programmatic labels, roles, or values, which may hinder assistive technologies from accurately interpreting their function.
  • There are some areas of the interface that rely on color

Accessibility features and gaps

Keyboard navigation for interactive charts

  • Press Tab to move focus to an interactive chart or to the next focusable element outside the chart.
  • When the chart is focused:
    • Use Right and Left Arrow keys to move between data points along the horizontal axis.
    • Use Up and Down Arrow keys to move between slices, bars, or lines along the vertical axis.
  • Press Enter to toggle selection or activate the focused element (when applicable).

Instructions for screen reader users: Toggling between browse and focus modes

Screen reader users may have to toggle between Browse and Focus Modes on few instances.

  • Browse (or Scan) mode: Used for reading and navigating through the page content using quick navigation keys (like jumping by headings, links, lists).
  • Focus (or Forms) mode: Used for interacting with form controls, widgets, and other input elements where you need to type or use arrow keys.

Common screen readers and how to toggle modes:

  • NVDA (Windows):
    • NVDA automatically switches between browse and focus mode when you enter or leave form fields.
    • You can manually toggle modes by pressing Insert (Caps Lock can be set as a duplicate modifier key) + Spacebar.
    • When in browse mode, arrow keys move through content; in focus mode, arrow keys interact with the element.
  • JAWS (Windows):
    • JAWS automatically switches between virtual cursor (browse mode) and focus mode when you enter interactive elements.
    • To manually toggle, press Insert + Z.
    • In virtual cursor mode, arrow keys navigate the page; in focus mode, arrow keys interact with the control.
  • VoiceOver (macOS and iOS):
    • VoiceOver does not have distinct browse and focus modes like Windows screen readers.
    • Use the VoiceOver cursor to navigate and interact with elements.

Use the Control + Option + Spacebar to activate or interact with elements.
