Introduction
All Leganto users, regardless of ability, need access to scholarly information. Clarivate is committed to providing all our users with an accessible experience for research, teaching and learning.
We make every effort to ensure that our platforms – including Leganto– can be used by everyone. Leganto is continually designed and developed to meet Level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2).
Users of Leganto should be able to:
- navigate the website using just a keyboard
- navigate the website using a screen reader
- zoom in up to 200% using browser tools without text spilling off screen; student users will be able to zoom in up to 400% using browser tools
There may be some parts of this website that are not fully accessible:
- Installation of the CiteIt! bookmarklet requires the use of a mouse. Leganto offers browser extensions for Chrome and Edge. Use of the bookmarklet is optional
- Some icons and interactive text do not have sufficient color contrast
- The state of elements are not always read out correctly, for example “expanded” and “collapsed”, or the status is missing entirely
- Some parts of the site contain elements like buttons or links that are nested inside of other interactive components. This can cause confusion or inconsistent behavior for users navigating with screen readers, keyboards, or other assistive technologies.
- In some places in the site, multiple controls, like buttons, contain the same name but perform different actions
- A light gray background is used in several places of the site to indicate when an entry is selected, for example in a dropdown menu
- Some content uploaded by instructors may not be fully accessible. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of content uploaded by instructors, researchers, or institutions. We encourage all contributors of user-uploaded content to follow accessibility guidelines when sharing content.
If you have a disability and need to make your computer, tablet or other device easier to use, AbilityNet is a recommended resource. We also recommend browsing free add-ons offered for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Platform accessibility
Accessibility and inclusion are important to Ex Libris and a key part of our ongoing commitment to the customer community. To ensure that our software is accessible to all our users, we work through various channels — programming and testing techniques, collaboration with customers, and external auditing.
Throughout the development process, we roll out new features with accessibility being part of the design. We test new features for accessibility as part of the development and QA processes. Leganto undergoes annual auditing by an external consulting company, most recently Deque Systems, and our accessibility roadmap addresses their rejects and recommendations. Additionally, we receive accessibility feedback from customers via support tickets. Reported issues are handled on an ongoing basis and prioritized based on the severity and the functionality impacted. Leganto monthly releases regularly include development in support of accessibility.
Accessibility features and gaps
Course material content
Leganto is a course reading list tool that enables instructors to add any type of materials to their reading lists. Students access these materials by linking to third-party platforms or downloading files. Course materials in Leganto might include books, articles, chapters, websites, videos, documents and more. Leganto does not control the accessibility of these items hosted on external platforms or of files uploaded to the system. We encourage instructors to upload accessible materials to Leganto, and to include links to accessible videos and external content to ensure accessibility for all learners.
Keyboard navigation
The semantic HTML structure in Leganto supports keyboard only navigation, enabling both mobile and desktop users to navigate page content. All forms, links, and buttons are accessible using just a keyboard and are operable with screen readers.
Please note that Leganto offers a Cite it! browser extension for Chrome and Edge. Until other browser extensions are developed, there is also a Cite it! bookmarklet. The Cite it! bookmarklet installation requires the use of a mouse. Once Cite it! is installed, it does not require the use of the mouse to operate. The use of this bookmarklet is optional.
Accessibility menu
The Accessibility menu allows users to choose a custom font size (regular, medium, and large) and color contrast setting (regular, black and white mode, medium contrast mode, and high contrast mode). Leganto screens adapt to the selected font size and color contrast. Users can also configure the feedback message duration (4, 8, or 12 seconds) and choose to reduce motion within the interface. Settings are saved for future sessions.

Accessibility of visual elements
By using Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) attributes for angular-based application, Leganto provides screen readers with descriptions of actions performed on the screen and the roles of buttons or objects on the page. All images and buttons have alternative content for screen-reader users, enabling specific description for non-textual elements.
How we tested this platform
The accessibility of Leganto is a continual effort at Clarivate. Accessibility standards are built into our design, and style guides and included as part of the requirements in our software development and quality assurance pipeline.
Leganto code is checked for accessibility using a range of automated and manual checks including but not limited to:
- Color Contrast Analyzers provided by WebAIM and Deque
- Deque axe accessibility testing tools
- High Contrast Chrome extension
- Keyboard-access manual testing and assessment
- WAVE (Web Accessibility Evaluation tool) provided by WebAIM
- Screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
Leganto is tested on the latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Edge, and on devices including Mac and Windows computers, and Android and iOS devices.
The website was last audited in May 2025. The test was carried out externally by Deque. External 3rd party audits are conducted in addition to the ongoing internal testing that is part of our development process.
