Clarivate empowers libraries to unlock the value of their collections with Alma Specto

AI-powered solution streamlines digital collection management and enriches discovery for researchers and communities

London, U.K. January 20, 2026Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a leading global provider of transformative intelligence, today announced the launch of Alma Specto. The AI-powered digital collection platform is designed to help libraries better manage, enrich and showcase their collections as digital resources continue to grow in scale and complexity.

Developed in close partnership with leading libraries including Vienna University Library, Bocconi University Library and University of Maine Libraries, Alma Specto harnesses AI to streamline the management of digital collections, helping to enrich metadata quality of image files and non-textual materials where there is minimal or no information available. It enhances discovery and accessibility of libraries’ digital collections, enabling libraries to better engage with their users and patrons, and reach new audiences.

Bar Veinstein, President, Academia & Government at Clarivate, said: “Libraries hold immense value in their digital and physical assets. Yet much of it remains undiscovered due to challenges such as manual cataloging, incomplete metadata and limited discovery tools. Alma Specto empowers libraries to uncover previously hidden assets, at scale, and transform and unlock the full potential of their digital collections. It redefines what is possible, helping libraries to advance teaching and learning, and fulfil their broader mission.”

Meg Colbert, Assistant Dean of Libraries, University of Maine and Merrill Library Coordinator, University of Maine at Machias said: “As an early adopter of Alma Specto, University of Maine Libraries valued the opportunity to help shape a platform designed specifically for libraries and cultural heritage collections. What stood out most was Alma Specto’s ability to integrate rich digital content directly into the library ecosystem, rather than isolating it in a separate repository. For our librarians, faculty, and users, this means improved discovery, stronger preservation workflows, and a more seamless experience connecting scholarship, teaching, and collections in one place.”

Key features of Alma Specto include:

  • AI Digital Metadata Assistant: Offers entity extraction, grouping by similarity and bulk tagging based on AI recommendations.
  • AI-powered metadata enrichment: Automates and enriches metadata for image files and non-textual materials, improving discoverability and saving time.
  • Integrated workflow management: Covers the entire process from ingestion and cataloging to exhibition building, streamlining digital document management.
  • Exhibition builder: Enables libraries to curate and present digital collections in engaging formats for their audiences and communities.
  • Flexible access: Offers tailored discovery experiences for expert users and the general public.
  • Easy upgrade path: For Alma Digital customers no migration is required, just a simple upgrade.

The first early adopters are expected to go live in the first quarter of 2026. Digital content preservation will be added to Alma Specto in the first half of this year.
