Pulse of the
Library 2025
Coming soon
The 2025 Pulse of the Library report from Clarivate launches soon. It reveals how over 2,000 academic, national and public librarians from across the globe are navigating a continually shifting library landscape.
A key finding from this year’s report? Libraries are no longer merely experimenting with AI but increasingly using it to support a wide range of strategic goals.

What’s changed since 2024?
We share three findings from the 2025 report.
- A cautious but steady increase in AI adoption: 67% of libraries are now exploring or implementing AI (up from 63% in 2024).
- Interest in upskilling is growing: In 2025, 56% of respondents recognize that AI will require significant upskilling or reskilling of teams.
- The pace of adoption varies regionally: Asia and Europe continue to lead in advancing implementation, with 65% of libraries in Mainland China in at least early implementation.
The 2025 report builds on our first Pulse of the Library report, launched in 2024.
Drawing on insights from librarians across academic, public and national institutions worldwide, the Pulse of the Library explores the evolving role of libraries in research and education, revealing both optimism and uncertainty around experimenting with AI-driven tools alongside concerns about budgets and AI skills gaps.
