Ed White is Head of the Clarivate Center for IP and Innovation Research, where he leads the development of the global benchmarks that underpin the Top 100 Global Innovators program. He is the principal architect of the Derwent Strength Index, the analytical framework used to evaluate more than 70 million inventions and measure innovation performance worldwide.
Over more than two decades at Clarivate and its predecessor organizations, Ed has advanced the field of innovation intelligence through invention level analytics, technology maturity modelling and data driven assessment of emerging technology systems, including the AI focused analysis central to the 2026 report.
Heading the research center, he brings together a multidisciplinary team of consultants, analysts and data scientists, advising global corporations, governments and research institutions on R&D strategy, IP and innovation investment and competitive positioning.
Ed holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nottingham. Ed’s work is characterized by clarity, precision and a commitment to rigor.
