Introduction

All researchers, regardless of ability, need access to scholarly information. ProQuest is committed to providing all our users with a fully accessible experience for research, teaching and learning.

At ProQuest, we make every effort to ensure that our platforms – including SFX Link Resolver – can be used by everyone. SFX Link Resolver is continually designed and developed to meet Level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2).

Users of SFX Link Resolver should be able to:

  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader.
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software.

If you have a disability and need to make your computer, tablet or other device easier to use, AbilityNet is a recommended resource. We also recommend browsing free add-ons offered for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

There may be some parts of this website that are not fully accessible:

  • The text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
  • Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
  • Radio buttons, checkboxes, and input forms are not identified by screen readers
  • You cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader

Accessibility features and gaps

Missing Labels

The most common accessibility issue on the site is the lack of labels on forms. This includes radio buttons, checkmarks, dropdown menus, lists, and text input fields. Fieldsets, or groups of forementioned forms, are also not properly labeled. This means a screen reader will not properly describe the purpose of the group.

Responsiveness

The Admin site is not fully responsive. While the text on some screens will wrap based on screen size, it will not on many, and the layout will not adapt to the screen size. This will force a user to horizontally scroll to see the full contents of the screen.

Tables

On many pages there are HTML layout tables present that do not have properly labeled headers. This could cause confusion for someone using a screen reader because the purpose of the table or its contents are not described.

How we tested this platform

The accessibility of SFX Link Resolver is a continual effort at ProQuest. Accessibility standards are built into our design, and style guides and included as part of requirements in our software development and quality assurance pipeline.
