Gout is a chronic condition characterized by intermittent acute flares caused by elevated serum uric acid (sUA). Xanthine oxidase inhibitors (XOIs) are the mainstay of chronic gout treatment, with generic allopurinol prescribed much more extensively than the brands Uloric and Zurampic.
