Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut, Aetna, AmeriHealth Mercy and UnitedHealth Group plan to submit bids for the care management contracts for residents eligible for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program in Connecticut. In New Jersey, more children will be getting coverage thanks to a new contract with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. The NJ FamilyCare program will be available to low-income families that don't qualify for Medicaid.Two of New York City's oldest health insurers–Group Health Inc. and Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York–are eyeing the New Jersey HMO market for expansion. New York, meanwhile, is considering carving out pharmacy benefit management from the MCOs that manage care for Medicaid beneficiaries. In other pharmacy benefit news, UnitedHealthcare has wrested away one of the country's largest pharmacy benefit management accounts from rival WellPoint Inc. in coordinating care for 1.2 million New York public employees and retirees.
