Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana | Spring | 2009 | Health Plan Analysis

Humana Inc. is making a splash in both Ohio and Kentucky with provider relations issues. In Louisville, the insurer's introduction of a narrow network of providers for the Ford Motor Co. has raised the hackles of physicians who call the move "economic credentialing of providers." In Ohio, Humana's network dispute with a large Dayton hospital system raised questions about how members are notified of hospital-payor contract changes. Another large regional insurer, WellPoint reports progress in the integration of its technology systems resulting from its multiple mergers over the past decade and says that its claims backlog is completely worked through. In Indiana, Clarian Health Plans, a new for-profit venture of Clarian Health System in Indianapolis, is marketing a new Medicare Advantage HMO in Marion County.
