Kansas & Missouri | Fall | 2009 | Health Plan Analysis

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City has engaged a medical home pilot with TransforMED, bringing new technologies to 13 medical practices in its operating regions. The practices can build the medical home model for patients regardless of their insurance. Coventry Health Care purchased the last provider-owned commercial plan in Kansas, Preferred Health Systems. The Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan switched to a single plan administrator, United Medical Resources, then added Mercy Health Plans at the last minute because of provider issues. UnitedHealthcare is taking its Diabetes Health Plan nationwide for large employers, with the hopes of lowering costs for those with the chronic illness.
