Asthma pharmacotherapy has two main goals: to address underlying airways inflammation and promote bronchodilation. Physicians use two types of therapy to achieve these goals: maintenance therapy (, a LABA/ICS, such as GSK’s Advair or AstraZeneca’s Symbicort) and rescue therapy (, a SABA, such as albuterol); and most asthma patients will receive more than one drug to treat their condition.
