The Coventry brand and products will continue to exist through 2013 in Medicare Advantage lines and commercial product lines even after the closing of Aetna's $5.7 billion purchase of the multiline provider. Coventry Health Care is a commercial major player in a dozen urban markets, but has in built up a solid presence in Medicaid and Medicare Advantage and in Part D. The carrier is offering numerous lower-priced narrow network Medicare Advantage products and several commercial narrow network products in key markets. Aetna will take its time absorbing Coventry's operations to maximize retention of Coventry clients. The two will also continue their current separate pharmacy benefit management contracts until their expiration.
