Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, allergic inflammatory disease of the esophagus, characterized by an accumulation of eosinophils. It can cause difficulty with swallowing food and has the potential to cause dangerous food impaction. Generically available treatments, such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and topical steroids, are the mainstays of clinical management of EoE.
