Market Events and Forecast Landscape | Forecast Methodology and General Market Assumptions | US/EU5 | 2021

In 2020, sales of branded biologics in oncology, immunology, endocrinology, nephrology, respiratory, and ophthalmology exceeded $100 billion in the major pharmaceutical markets under study (United States, EU5, and Japan). Sales of biosimilars in these same therapy areas and countries totaled approximately $8.5 billion. Throughout our 2020-2030 forecast period, increasing numbers of branded biologics are set to lose patent protection, and biosimilars are expected to enter the market and erode both patient share and drug prices. We present our forecasts for key reference brands and their biosimilars by therapeutic area, molecule, and country/region.
