Hypertension – Current Treatment – Treatment Algorithms: Claims Data Analysis – Hypertension (US)

Hypertension remains the most prevalent and clinically significant modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Treatment typically begins with firstline therapies centered around longestablished, widely genericized drug classes—RAAS inhibitors (ACE inhibitors or ARBs), CCBs, and thiazidetype diuretics. If blood pressure remains above target, therapy is intensified stepwise with additional agents. Given that most patients need combination therapy to reach target blood pressure levels, the use of single pill combinations has expanded as a practical strategy to reduce pill burden and enhance day-to-day adherence. Treatment Algorithms: Claims Data Analysis provides insights into prescription patterns, quantifies realworld patient flow and drug usage across the lines of therapy in newly diagnosed and recently treated cohorts.

Questions answered

  • What patient shares do key therapies and brands garner by line of therapy in newly diagnosed hypertensive patients? What are the quarterly trends in prescribing among recently treated and newly diagnosed hypertensive patients?
  • How have MRAs been integrated into the treatment algorithm, and what is their source of business?
  • What percentage of hypertension patients receive drug therapy within a year of diagnosis, and how quickly? What percentage of patients progress to later lines of therapy within a year of diagnosis?
  • What percentage of hypertension patients are treated with monotherapy vs. combination therapy? What are the most commonly used combinations?
  • What are the product-level compliance and persistency rates among drug-treated patients?
