New England | Spring | 2009 | Health Plan Analysis

The over-arching theme of the healthcare marketplace in New England continues to be the regionalization of the well-established plans like Harvard Pilgrim, Tufts, MVP and others across the New England region. The different players are making various moves to position themselves to survive the economic downturn, take advantage of government-sponsored healthcare opportunities, and ready themselves for national health reform.
In this midst of the regional plans flexing their muscles, Centene has won a piece of Massachusetts' Commonwealth Care state-subsidized program. Harvard Pilgrim has snagged the New Hampshire Healthy Kids contract from Anthem as part of its bid to expand in that state. MVP is enlarging its footprint in New Hampshire and Vermont.
