How Clarivate works towards SDG 3: good health and well-being through antimicrobial stewardship

At Clarivate, we put sustainability at the heart of our business goals. Our commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles informs every decision we make, from how we operate internally, to how we support customers and society at large. As part of this commitment, we are proud to highlight a global health initiative that reflects our values and advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing global health threats of our time. It not only challenges modern medicine but also disproportionately affects vulnerable populations with limited access to effective treatment. At Clarivate, we believe that combating AMR requires a combination of actionable data, digital innovation and strong public–private partnerships. Working with Teva Pharmaceuticals, a global biopharmaceutical company, we co-developed one of Europe’s largest pharmacy-based AMR education campaigns and are now helping scale that model to additional markets. Together, we aim to foster more equitable access to effective antibiotics while promoting responsible use that safeguards public health for future generations.
Driving impact in Germany: educating at the point of care
In 2023, Clarivate and Teva launched a pioneering digital AMR stewardship campaign across Germany. Using pharmacy software systems, the campaign delivered real-time educational messages to pharmacists at the point of care, focused on appropriate antibiotic use and patient communication. By empowering pharmacists with real-time, evidence-based content, the initiative enabled more meaningful patient conversations and helped guide responsible prescribing behaviours.
Early real-world data analysis revealed a measurable reduction in treatment escalations and antibiotic switches, potential signs of more effective first-line prescribing and patient adherence.
These results demonstrate the potential for digital education tools to influence health outcomes and reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. The initiative directly supports SDG 3.8, promoting access to safe, effective medicines, and SDG 12.2, by encouraging more sustainable antibiotic consumption practices.
Expanding access in Kenya: A scalable model for stewardship
In 2025, Clarivate and Teva built on the success of the Germany campaign to launch a digital stewardship program in Kenya, tailored to the specific needs of low-resource healthcare settings. This initiative supports clinicians with decision-making tools for antibiotic prescribing and uses automated SMS reminders to reinforce patient adherence to prescribed regimens, a key factor in reducing treatment failure and resistance.
Combining digital infrastructure with behavioural insights supports stronger communication between clinicians and patients. This approach aligns with SDG 3.d, which calls for enhanced health system capacity for early warning and response to health risks.
While final results will be available in 2026, the early feedback from healthcare providers and public health stakeholders has been positive, highlighting the potential of cross-sector collaboration in addressing AMR sustainably.
Sustainability through collaboration and insight
Long-term sustainability depends on insight-driven innovation and collaboration. Our work with Teva underscores how shared purpose and complementary expertise can help address complex public health challenges. It also reflects our broader commitment to support equitable access to care, improve patient outcomes and safeguard the future of essential medicines.
We know that challenges like AMR require systemic, sustained effort—but they also offer powerful opportunities for innovation and transformation. By contributing to data-driven stewardship programs and enabling informed healthcare decisions globally, we are actively advancing the UN SDGs while fulfilling our purpose: to bring clarity to the complex and enable a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
