The launch of Kentucky's health insurance exchange, Kynect, went more smoothly than most exchanges in the nation. The exchange has attracted additional participating carriers for 2015 and competition for enrollees will increase. Enrollment within the commercial sector remains highly consolidated in Kentucky with the three largest carriers accounting for nearly 80 percent of enrollment. Given that the largest carrier in the state, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky, has seen a robust response to its exchange plans, the competitive landscape is unlikely to see a dramatic shift.
