Every two months, Essential Science Indicators (ESI) from Clarivate Analytics undergoes a data update. This update includes the latest New Hot Papers, which are papers published in the past two years that are in the top one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) for their field and publication period.

For the fifth bimonthly update, which was published in January and covers January 1 2006-October 31 2016, there were a total of 2,853 Hot Papers. Of these, 1,816 papers were not Hot Papers in the previous update.

The below table lists the latest New Hot Papers in ESI with the highest cite counts in their fields:
