Essential Science Indicators from Clarivate Analytics is updated every two months. At each update, we look at New Hot Papers, which are papers published in the past two years that are in the top one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) for their field and publication period.
For the third bimonthly update of 2018, which was published in September and covers 1 January 2008 to 30 June 2018, there were a total of 3,054 Hot Papers. Of these, 1,854 papers were not Hot Papers in the previous update.
