New signals to demonstrate the wider impact of research: beyond traditional citation metrics (EMEA)
In today’s research landscape, research producers are increasingly required to demonstrate the wider impact of research and provide evidence that research contributes to society, innovation, and global priorities.
Since the commercial availability of citation databases, one source of data to measure research impact has been based on scholarly citations. To demonstrate the wider impact of research, measurements need to look beyond traditional citations. A new suite of metrics are becoming increasingly adopted to better measure the wider impact of research using multiple angles.
We will present how new data, in the form of patent literature and policy documents, provide new signals to support researchers and institutions with their goal to demonstrate the wider impact of their research and provide clear evidence that link research activities to innovation and global policy decisions.
