India may soon surpass the United States in filing activity
The U.S. claims second place with 566,938 applications in 2024. However, India is rapidly closing in on the U.S. with over 537,000 new applications in 2024 and an average yearly growth of 10% over the last decade. -
Mainland China holds position as region with most filings despite declining trend
Mainland China continues to lead in global trademark filings despite a steady three-year decline in activity. France and Japan also experienced decreasing filing activity, with the lowest filing volumes seen since 2017. -
Australia recovers to 2021 trademark filing volume
After two years of growth, Australian filing volumes are almost identical to 2021 figures. This is largely due to an increase in foreign trademark applications within the jurisdiction. -
Seven brands consistently ranked in the top 20 largest portfolio lists
Procter & Gamble, Nestle, and Apple were each among the largest portfolio owners in at least seven of the ten registers analyzed. Four additional brands showed dominance among the top lists.
Methodology
To create this report, we harnessed the power of SAEGIS, our advanced CompuMark online trademark database and screening solution, to extract trademark filing data spanning from 2015 to 2024 across ten key regions: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Mainland China, Japan and Australia.
Delving deeper into 2024 trademark data, we explored trademark portfolio sizes of key players to uncover intricate connections within regional and global trademark ecosystems.
