미국 필라델피아, 영국 런던, 2011년 9월 21일 — 세계에서 가장 존경 받은 연구상인 노벨상 수상자들이 발표되기까지 2주를 남겨둔 시점에서 Thomson Reuters는 2011 Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates을 발표했다. 이 연구자들은 노벨상 수상 후보자로 경합을 벌이게 될 가능성이 높다.
매년 Thomson Reuters는 자사 연구 솔루션인 “Web of Knowledge™” 데이터를 이용하여 노벨상 수상 분야인 생리학 , 의학, 물리학, 화학, 경제학 분야에서 가장 영향력 있는 연구자들을 정량적인 분석에 의해 선정한다. Thomson Reuters는 연구자들의 연구 성과가 받는 인용에 대한 상세한 분석을 통해 연구 영향력이 있는 주요 연구자들을 Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates로 선정하고 이들이 올해 또는 가까운 장래에 노벨상을 수상할 것이라는 예상을 함께 내놓고 있다.
Thomson Reuters에서는 매년연구 성과에 대한 정량적 데이터를 이용하여 노벨상 수상자들을 예측하는 유일무이한 기관이다. 2002년 이후Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates 중 21명이 실제로 노벨상을 수상했다.

Thomson Reuters는 연구자가 발표한 영향력 높은 연구 성과와 인용 빈도를 Nobel Committee가 인정할 만한 획기적 발견이나 연구 주제와 함께 고려함으로써 Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates를 선정하고 있다.”고 설명했다.
Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates 수상자들은 보통 자신의 연구 분야 내에서 지난 20-30년 동안 출판된 논문의 인용 횟수를 바탕으로상위 0.1%의 권위 있는 연구자들이다.
Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates발표 결과를 살펴보면, 올해는 24명의 수상자 중 18명이 미국 기관에 근무하고 있다. 그 외 오스트리아, 호주, 캐나다, 프랑스, 독일, 일본의 연구자들 또한 2011년 수상자로 선정되었다.
