Hitachi develops and manufactures a wide variety of machinery and equipment. Its list of products ranges from heavy machinery (hydraulic excavators) to medical devices (MRI machines), from materials (for semiconductors) to appliances (washing machines and vacuum cleaners) to transportation (elevators, escalators, and automotive parts). Hitachi makes these products and more through seven business segments. The company, which has operations around the world, gets about half of its revenue from Japan. Hitachi draws on more than a century of manufacturing experience accumulated since it started out in 1910 as a mining machinery repair shop.
