The Web of Science is accelerating scientific exchange and progress in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by providing key publication data to Germany’s Open Access Monitor.
The Web of Science™, part of Clarivate™, has long been an advocate for open access content. Our publisher-neutral data helps the research community discover and evaluate high-quality open access publications, and enables institutions and policy makers to improve research efficiency, reproducibility and transparency.
Our ongoing commitment to support open research has involved a broad range of community-led and data-driven projects. And now, our new collaboration with Open Access Monitor (OA Monitor) takes this a step further by helping to facilitate scientific exchange in the DACH region.
What this partnership means
The OA Monitor will use the Web of Science customized publication, grant and funding data for Germany, Switzerland and Austria in various ways. It will help connect author data with the publication fee information sourced by the OA Monitor, as well as help to evaluate the transformation process from closed (subscription) to open publication access. Both will help to progress equitable participation in research and, because the OA Monitor is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), advance policy changes with direct and widespread benefits for the German academic community.
Dr. Bernhard Mittermaier, Head of the Central Library at Forschungszentrum Jülich said: “At Forschungszentrum Jülich, we have been using products from Clarivate and its predecessors for decades, and so we are very pleased to have the opportunity to integrate Web of Science data into the Open Access Monitor as well. OA Monitor is a very valuable tool to analyse data on the progress of Open Access transformation, which has now received an important improvement.”
