Say hello to the new Web of Science

Today, the Web of Science builds on its illustrious past as we look boldly to the future. Over the month of November we will introduce the new Web of Science to better enable you to focus on what matters most, while maintaining the same high-quality data you trust. And we want your feedback!

With more than 20 million researchers publishing more than 8,200 papers per day, the problem of information overload has grown exponentially. This volume of research makes it close to impossible to stay up to date, determine what is important and predict what is coming next.

Since the inception of the Science Citation Index™, the forerunner of the Web of Science™, Dr. Eugene Garfield foresaw the potential dangers of information overload and how a citation index could be the solution by helping to identify the most impactful literature and discover related content. Now, more than ever, the research community needs world-class tools to perform better research.

A whole new world for research

Today, by combining Dr. Garfield’s legacy with Clarivate technological advances, we introduce the new Web of Science, offering an improved user experience with:

  • Increased emphasis on the citation network to surface articles you need to read now
  • More efficient workflows that save time with streamlined interactions and faster page loading
  • An intuitive interface that supports how and where you want to work—a laptop, a tablet or a phone — and is accessible to all with improved WCAG 2.1 AA conformance

This new Web of Science represents the first step of a transformation toward a dynamic – and highly personal – research intelligence platform. We have been listening to your feedback and working to address your pain points. We appreciate your recognition of our efforts with the recent win for “Most improved product 2019” from the Charleston Advisor Readers’ Choice Awards 2019.

To raise the bar further, we are making a significant investment to modernize the underlying technology to offer a nimbler, more responsive, proactive and personalized user experience.

Dual access to all by the end of November

During the month of November, we will be providing access to the new Web of Science to all customers alongside the classic user interface. We are encouraging as much feedback as possible from you—our Web of Science community.

Since introducing the new Web of Science with early adopters during Spring 2020, we have expanded the features and content through our monthly releases. Now, with the majority of feature functionality available, we invite all of you to join us on this journey.

By the end of November, all users will be able to preview the new Web of Science alongside the classic version. By clicking the button on the home page, you can explore the new platform and still have easy access to the classic Web of Science. We will use this dual-access period to solicit the feedback needed from you to refine and complete the new Web of Science.

Help shape the future

Your input will help shape the future of the Web of Science. We offer multiple ways to share your feedback. At the bottom right of every page, you will see a question mark button containing an option to leave feedback. In addition, you may receive a survey or invitation to participate in a face-to-face interview while using the new platform. If you would like to provide more feedback, you can request information via the feedback channel to join our user group and focus groups on developing concepts or usability testing for proposed designs.

Your continued feedback will help inform our vision as we work towards a personalized, modern Web of Science with an intuitive and proactive user experience.
