Nashville | Tennessee | 2023 | Market Overview Brief

Nashville’s IDNs are expanding outside the immediate metro area in response to rapid population growth and evolving their care continuums, provider alignment, clinical integration and reimbursement strategies. Vanderbilt University Medical Center completed its first hospital acquisition by purchasing Tennova Healthcare—Lebanon (now Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital) from Community Health Systems and is deepening its pediatric service lines, while Ascension Saint Thomas is expanding oncology and women’s services alongside behavioral health. The market’s clinically integrated networks are likely to gain new members and clout in the post-COVID era as smaller providers gravitate to these networks for financial and clinical strength. Access to prescription drugs should improve in the longterm through improved patient access and telemedicine, but for now, hundreds of thousands of residents have lost their health insurance and prescription drug coverage amidst record high unemployment.
