Louisiana | 2023 | Health Plan Analysis (Event Driven)

The extension of Louisiana's managed Medicaid program came in December 2017 allowing residents to have continued access to population health management that improves patient health and saves costs in the long term. In addition to Medicaid expansion, the federally facilitated health insurance exchange is helping reduce Louisiana's uninsured rate as hundreds of thousands of residents seek subsidies. Average exchange premiums increased for 2023, though one carrier did decrease rates. Off the exchange, commercial enrollment has fallen slightly. The state has issued new Medicaid managed care contracts. Elevance Health is set to acquire the state's largest carrier, Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana.
