The extension of Louisiana's managed Medicaid program came in December 2017 allowing residents to have continued access to population health management that improves patient health and saves costs in the long term. In addition to Medicaid expansion, the federally facilitated health insurance exchange is helping reduce Louisiana's uninsured rate as hundreds of thousands of residents seek subsidies. Exchange premiums decreased for 2022. Off the exchange, commercial enrollment has fallen slightly. The state has issued new Medicaid managed care contracts.
