Colorado health policy has circled around greater access in rural areas and cost-effective healthcare through inciting competition in the state. Colorado's proposal to create a public option, prescription drug rebating for Medicaid, and active policy improvements in the exchange marketplace are suggestive of the same. Public option legislation had been on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the difficulties the pandemic poses for provider negotiations. Although a major overhaul on the healthcare front is unlikely at this time, the state has restructured the public option bill after discussion with stakeholders.
