Since 2001, our list has identified the small fraction of global research scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research.

These are the Highly Cited Researchers™, curated by our colleagues at the Institute for Scientific Information™.

This select group contribute disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge; their innovations make the world healthier, richer, more sustainable and more secure. Their multiple Highly Cited Papers rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science. frequently cited by their peers during the last decade. Researchers across the world eagerly anticipate the launch of the Highly Cited Researchers list each year and hundreds of universities and research organizations celebrate the inclusion of their researchers on the list.

Once again this year, we invited teams at press offices and communications departments to our guidance webinar where we highlighted:

  • What it means to be a Highly Cited Researcher – and why it matters to your institution
  • How the number of researchers at your institution will be displayed in the Annual Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy
