To see who else lands in the top 20 of this sector, download the report.<\/p>\n<h3>Geographical concentration of innovators<\/h3>\n<p>Within the report, we analyze the geographical concentration of leading innovators within this segment, examining not just the top 20 but all organizations within this sector who sit in the Top 1,000 global innovators.<\/p>\n<p>This reveals interesting geographical variations in the number of organizations in the segment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Japanese organizations play a vital role as partners and high-tech power engineering suppliers worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>Mainland China, while a major accelerating source of innovation, represents only 1% of the organizations in the segment\u2019s Top 1,000.<\/li>\n<li>In contrast, the data indicates a particular concentration of innovation excellence and focus within Europe\u2019s energy and electrical sectors.<\/li>\n<li>In examining the role academia plays in innovation and the number of downstream references in patents of leading innovators, we observe the United States as an academic powerhouse, with significant contributions from UC Berkeley, MIT and the University of Michigan.<\/li>\n<li>When examining the number of papers cited, academic research institutions from Mainland China show a growing influence despite this region representing a low number of organizations within the energy and electrical segment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Emerging trends in the energy and electrical segment<\/h3>\n<p>Diving deeper into the Top 1,000 Global Innovators data, we identify innovation trends in the power and energy ecosystem, including innovation trajectories, technical focus areas with incomplete innovation curves and areas of convergence for technical features of innovations.
