{"id":178347,"date":"2022-03-21T07:02:04","date_gmt":"2022-03-21T07:02:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clarivate.com\/?p=178347"},"modified":"2025-05-30T17:35:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T17:35:17","slug":"demystifying-the-5g-standard-essential-patent-landscape-phase-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/clarivate.com\/intellectual-property\/blog\/demystifying-the-5g-standard-essential-patent-landscape-phase-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Demystifying the 5G standard essential patent landscape: Phase 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A new report<sup><a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup> from Clarivate patent experts provides an update on 5G standards-essential patent declarations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In our <a href=\"https:\/\/clarivate.com\/blog\/demystifying-the-5g-standard-essential-patent-landscape-phase-2\/\"><em>Demystifying the 5G standard essential patent landscape<\/em><em>: Phase 2 <\/em>report<\/a> published in July 2021, we presented the statistics of patents declared as essential to 5G standards as of March 31, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>We present statistics in a new report that captures new declarations, new 5G standards, new patent applications and new grants within the patent families. For this report, we considered declarations as of December 31, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Key observations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total 5G declared families increased by nearly a quarter from March 31, 2021, with a total count of more than 46,300 patent families as of December 31, 2021.<\/li>\n<li>63% of 5G declared patent families have at least one granted patent.<\/li>\n<li>The top six companies in volume of declared 5G patent families with at least one granted patent continue to be Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, LG, Nokia and Ericsson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To learn more, <a href=\"#gate-609d9101-28ec-4cb3-a71c-51fe607a2365\">download and read the full report here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Clarivate was retained to prepare this report by Sidley Austin LLP on behalf of a client.
