SYDNEY, 10 December 2016 – Macquarie University, one of Australia’s leading public research universities, is boosting its innovation efforts by making global patent information and intellectual property (IP) analysis tools available to all students, researchers and academics utilizing flagship solutions from Clarivate Analytics. The university-wide access to these tools supports Macquarie University’s innovation agenda by enabling everyone to perform IP analysis and make more accurate and informed decisions about collaborations with industries domestically and internationally.

Jeroen Prinsen, vice president and head of the Australia and New Zealand regions for Clarivate Analytics, said, “We are pleased that Macquarie University, well-known for its pioneering approach to research & innovation, has chosen our flagship solutions, Thomson Innovation and Derwent World Patents Index, to help fulfill their strategic priorities of remaining at the forefront of innovation and driving industry-university collaboration, which is aligned to the Australian government’s National Innovation & Science Agenda. Our trusted patent information and powerful IP analysis tools will inform Macquarie University’s collaboration and commercialisation activities and help them identify new industry partnerships and opportunities for cross-university collaborations. Macquarie researchers can also access the technical and scientific literature they need to shape research output and drive innovation, as well as map the impact of their research work on industry.”

Anna Grocholsky, Director of Commercialisation and Innovation at Macquarie University said, “Thomson Innovation is a valuable tool that will be incredibly helpful for all researchers and staff for their patent and literature searching. We are excited and look forward to using Thomson Innovation.”

Thomson Innovation enables university researchers and students access to the world’s most comprehensive international patent collection and technical literature, enabling them to shape research output and drive innovation. The platform enables a university to identify industry partners and collaborators, identify opportunities for domestic and international cross-university collaboration, prepare work ready students with industry leading tools whilst quantifying the impact of university research output into the literature cited in patents.

Using Thomson Innovation, Macquarie University can access the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) and Derwent Patent Citation Index (DPCI). DWPI has been classified and indexed by more than 900 chemistry, engineering, life-science and electronics specialists, with expertly indexed patent data featuring enhanced titles and comprehensive abstracts in English, including BRIC countries, Europe and Latin America.  The Research Office gains access to the DPCI making it possible to distinguish between citations made by an applicant versus citations made by an examiner for both patents and literature.
