When working in the intellectual property department of a corporation and specifically for those that handle the prosecution of a portfolio, the announcement of a merger or acquisition can create all sorts of emotions.

First, there’s the emotion of uncertainty and not knowing what’s going on. Eventually, you start to think about all the work associated with getting the IP portfolio ready to go or ready to integrate into your own company’s portfolio. It can be overwhelming to consider the amount of work that is about to follow.

There are a lot of activities included in an IP due diligence. What we’re focusing on in this article are those elevated activities that are administrative, very time consuming and require a team of people dedicated to the effort.
