Brexit updates to domain eligibility policies

As of January 1, 2021, the United Kingdom is no longer part of the European Union. As a result, some European country code top level domains (ccLDs) are updating domain name eligibility policies that previously allowed registrants from the United Kingdom.

Some ccTLDs will allow U.K.-based registrants to keep any domains owned prior to Brexit, while others may disable and/or delete U.K.-based domains after a certain period.

We are actively engaging with many of these ccTLDs on a regular basis, and monitoring other news sources, to collect information as to what adjustments these registries are making.

The following list includes the information we have collected on European ccTLDs, including the U.K.. We will update this list as new information becomes available. Additionally, EURid, the domain registry for .eu, will provide updates here.

Please note: this information should not be relied on as a comprehensive source. We will update it on a regular basis based on the best information available. We are also available to consult on opportunities to optimize your domain portfolio as needed.

If you have any questions regarding Brexit impacts to your MarkMonitorTM services, please contact us today.
