We\u2019ve been forced inside, isolated from friends and family, and left struggling to maintain the social connections that bind us together. <a href=\"https:\/\/publons.com\/researcher\/1357173\/alex-haslam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex Haslam<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/recognition.webofscience.com\/awards\/highly-cited\/2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Highly Cited Researcher<\/a> as recognized by Clarivate\u2122, and professor of psychology at University of Queensland, hones in on this loss of connection in his work. In the <em>Atlas<\/em>, they used co-citation clustering (clusters of articles that are cited by the same articles) of recently published highly cited articles to map out \u201cResearch Fronts.\u201d Within the sphere of human knowledge, these Research Fronts represent areas of significant current interest.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68401 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/clarivate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/researchfronts.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"474\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Why we\u2019re looking back to the <strong><em>Atlas of Science<\/em><\/strong>\u2014and where we\u2019re taking it<\/h3>\n<p>For each research front in the <em>Atlas of Science<\/em>, the ISI painstakingly put together a summary of the Research Front (explaining its relevance), a visualization of the relationship between key papers in the front and reference lists of the core papers and recent citing papers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/frma.2018.00014\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-68410 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/clarivate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/12\/researchfronts.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"522\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, the <em>Atlas<\/em> was ahead of its time. Publication ceased in the late 80s.
