Over the past few weeks, we\u2019ve heard your questions following our recent announcement about changes to the purchasing of print and perpetual access to electronic books through our platforms. In this post\u2014and in future updates\u2014we aim to clarify what\u2019s changing and what isn\u2019t, and, most importantly, reaffirm our commitment to supporting academic libraries.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rialto marketplace<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its launch, Rialto has helped libraries streamline selection and acquisition, save time and optimize budgets. Today, over 500 institutions rely on the Rialto marketplace for efficient, data-driven purchasing decisions.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the key questions we\u2019ve heard is:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Will Rialto continue to support perpetual access and title-by-title purchasing from publishers and other vendors?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer is <\/span>absolutely<\/span><\/b> yes<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Perpetual access is a core part of how libraries build collections that support curriculum and research, and we recognize its importance. Listening to our customers, we acknowledge that the originally communicated dates for the last orders would pose a considerable challenge, so we are extending the ability to make perpetual purchases of print books and ebooks on all platforms, including Rialto, through June 30, 2026. While Clarivate will no longer directly sell title-by-title print and electronic books after June 30, 2026,<\/span> we reaffirm our commitment to facilitating title-by-title perpetual access purchasing through the Rialto marketplace of ebooks from publishers and aggregators that offer this model.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Expanding choice in the marketplace<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rialto is becoming the only vendor-neutral marketplace, offering a broad selection from a growing number of publishers and aggregators along with integrated library workflows and collection development analytics. It contains over 2 million unique titles from a range of vendors, beyond the titles sold directly by ProQuest.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are actively working with existing publishers and aggregators to strengthen Rialto as a rich and diverse content platform. We are also engaging new publishers and aggregators to expand the selection available in the marketplace to provide an even wider <\/span>range of content and material types, all conveniently available in one place with integrated workflows and analytics<\/span>. In collaboration with the Rialto Working Group, we are already working to ensure that new ebook vendors are added to the marketplace to reflect the broad and diverse library communities\u2019 needs and provide the value they seek. More information to follow in the coming weeks.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Workflow integration and efficiencies are key to libraries and are a core pillar of Rialto. We will continue to invest in improving library workflows and enhancing Rialto\u2019s integrations with other solutions such as Alma library management system,<\/a> Leganto reading list management solution<\/a>, Rapido library resource management<\/a>, and third-party products.<\/span><\/p>\n

For libraries looking to transition their workflows to other platforms, we are committed to working closely with customers and partners to provide necessary support. This includes migration guidance, documentation, and collaboration with vendors to help streamline the process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking ahead: Informed fulfillment<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Building on its strong foundation, Rialto continues to evolve with the marketplace at its core. By embracing a holistic approach to collection development\u2014leveraging analytics and powered by artificial intelligence\u2014Rialto is expanding to offer:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
